GENDER REASSIGNMENT SURGERY

This surgery is also known as sex reassignment surgery, it is performed to change the physical appearance of a person by changing genital organs from one gender to another.

PURPOSE

• Newborns having intersex deformities should be assigned to one sex or the other. These deformities usually represent the intermediate stages between female genitals and the change to male genitals caused by male hormonal stimulation
• The surgery is performed so that an individual can match their physical gender with what they emotionally feel is their true gender
In both the cases, technically favorable consideration is to a female rather than a male.

PROCEDURES

Chest Reconstruction Surgery – It is a surgery where the breast tissue is reconstructed in a male chest.

Metoidioplasty – it is a surgical procedure that helps you develop your genital organs.

Phalloplasty – it is the reconstruction or the artificial modification of the male genital organs

Scroptoplasty – at the base of the penis there is a thin sac known as scrotum. It is a very important part in the male reproductive system because, it provides protection to the testes where the sperm is produced.
Scroptoplasty is a surgical procedure for females who wish to undergo complete gender reassignment. This surgery is also done to improve the damaged scrotum or achieve improved appearance.

Hysterectomy – it is a surgical procedure that is used to remove all the female genital organs such as cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubules and surrounding structures.

Vaginoplasty – a surgical procedure used to reconstruct a vagina.

Feminizing augmentation mammoplasty – it is also known as breast implants. This surgical procedure is used to change the shape, size and texture of the breasts.

Orchiectomy – A surgical procedure used to remove one or both the testicles.

Facial feminization surgery – A set of cosmetic surgical procedures where typical male facial features undergo surgery to get them into a correct size and shape as that of typical female facial features.

Reduction thyrochondroplasty – It is a surgical procedure used to reduce the appearance of Adams apple. It is generally performed in trans women to achieve more a feminine appearance of the neck.

Electrolysis – A surgical procedure where facial hair such as beard is removed. It is a routine procedure mostly necessary for transsexual woman so that they achieve a physical appearance as a woman.

RECOVERY PERIOD

Based on the surgery, surgeon will suggest the right amount of time to rest. First two weeks need complete rest along with the proper medications suggested.

POST TREATMENT CARE

This surgical procedure needs more of a mental stability care. Physical care involves following the prescriptions and the diet procedures as per your surgeons’ recommendation. Society’s approval and most importantly ones’ family approval makes the patient feel comfortable.
